The Spread of “No Code”. No more programmers?

  • 2020.08.17

A joint research team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Intel has successfully developed an algorithm with the ability to generate algorithms. However, it’s too early to extend the fantasy that this could lead to an apocalyptic dystopia like the one ruled by Skynet. What they have achieved this time is the automation of programming by machines. This allows programmers to automate a variety of tedious and repetitive tasks. And by taking this to the limit, anyone can program simply by describing the tasks they want to run. The team’s system, called Machine Inference Code Similarity (MISIM), learns how one piece of software works by analyzing the differences in syntax between one piece of software and another piece of code that behaves similarly, or by studying the structure of the code. The idea of a computer that can read natural language instructions and program them automatically has been around for some time and is already being put into practice by several no-code development platforms (NCDPs) created under the so-called “no code” movement. A growing number of companies are building systems based on code created by third parties or obtained from repositories and platforms, led by start-ups that have […]

After working in Pharmaceutical company for 2 years, in the third year, I started a new task of outsourcing. The background for this job is, I told to the manager of my new company that I can outsource development jobs from Japan to Nepal. I also have some friends who has their own company and their labor cost in Nepal is low and they are very much hard-working individuals. The manager was attracted to this offer. He then via some route told this to company CEO. CEO himself contacted me in response to my proposal and was very much positive on starting this as their new business. He asked me to take him to Nepal for company visit on my new Company’s expenses. I introduced him to some of the companies in Nepal and my friend’s company was included among them. CEO was impressed after seeing them in person and we returned with some target companies. Thus, the outsourcing started with me as main in the team from Japan. We successfully outsourced some small jobs and now looking to outsource bigger ones. Now, my schedule is I do job half a day in Pharmaceutical company and half in the outsourcing […]

Fifth job: Pharmaceutical company

  • 2019.07.17

Through my company, I was introduced to another company which then introduced me to Pharmaceutical company to work there as a dispatch employee. The workload in the new environment was so much less, and I had so much time. This I hadn’t experienced in past 2 years. I used to return home at 17:30 which was the leaving time in this company. It felt like I was leaving in the noon and didn’t know what to do after returning home. In the beginning I used to feel distressed and vulnerable because of this imbalance. The workload was so much less that in the first 3 months I did only 2 hours work a day and stayed idle for rest of the day. Since there was so less work, I felt like I would be fired since the company could do well without me also. So, I was preparing myself to receive some extra licenses related to engineering. But due to language barrier and lack of guidance, getting license seemed not possible. I had one skill that the people in Pharmaceutical company didn’t have. The skill was programming and this I had accumulated in the last 2 years. With this skill […]

Fourth job: IT company

After working for 1 year in Steak Restaurant, by this time I had completed my computer related Vocational School and was applying for full time job in one of the IT firm in Japan. The work force was low, and everyone could find work if they applied properly. I myself had received work confirmation in 3 different IT firms. I selected one among them with the suggestion from teacher in vocational school. From April of 2015, I joined as Programmer in an IT firm of Japan as proper employee. At first there was few trainings where we studied some algorithms. Then we were asked to develop one system meant for project management to be used especially for inhouse development. It was quite difficult to most of us. Some of the colleagues were even new to web development. The office hour was till 18:00 but due to not understanding of the programming concepts, some of the members stayed till 20:30 in the evening. This is rare for freshers. I also stayed till that time a couple of times. Sometime the programming wouldn’t go well and would continue to think of the logic even after getting back home. When everything went as […]

The owner of the Air-conditioner’s parts manufacturing company was looking to start a new business. Steak and wine restaurant. He wanted a good employee to whom he could entrust some task of restaurant. His employee in the company were permanent looking particularly to work there. Assigning them to restaurant could result them to resign. Moreover, Japan has lower work force and to find some trustworthy person within a time frame is difficult task. For the owner, I was the most eligible person that he could find around to entrust the job. The owner contacted me via host family. I did not have any prior experience in the business, but I was willing to learn more and go further in the world. The answer to the offer was YES. Thus, started my third job in Steak restaurant and wine bar. When I first went to the restaurant, it was quite clean, and everything neatly arranged. I could feel the sense of design and the person to whom the whole business was entrusted to (in other words, restaurant and bar manager) was quite thorough in the business. I felt like I could learn many things from him. I told the manager that […]

Second job: Air-conditioner’s parts manufacturing company

  • 2019.07.13

In the Obento job, I was working from 8 am to 6/7 pm on Saturday and holidays whereas 8 am to 12 noon in the weekdays. This work continued for quite a while and I was getting better in washing dishes however I failed to reduce time of washing. I also became in-charge of floor cleaning of this company and had the opportunity to do this once or twice a week depending upon the floor condition. During weekdays, I did the assigned task after 6 pm. (My Japanese Language school was till 5 pm.) After 1 year, one day the host family heard that there was a vacancy in nearby Air-conditioner’s parts manufacturing company and they asked me to try for the job. By now I was also fed-up with washing dishes and cleaning with not so much satisfactory income (I was totally satisfied during my starting days) and now was looking forward for some changes. This felt like a good opportunity. I enrolled the company for summer vacation, which was almost 1 month. The summer of Osaka is 38-39 degree Celsius. Quite hot, I say and believe me it is. The work was to load the properly packed equipment […]

Working Experience in Japan

  • 2019.07.13

This is a personal experience and might not match with the experience of people living here. But I will be more than happy if this becomes some type of reference to the reader. Note: This is not a complain neither appreciation. The purpose behind this is to share knowledge. Introduction I am from Nepal. I came to Japan on October 2, 2010 as Japanese Language student. I am among the lucky one that was offered to stay with Japanese family. First job: Obento Company The host family had their own Obento business. I had to do something to earn my living, but my Japanese language was limited to hiragana, katakana (characters of Japan) and some simple greetings with no listening skills. Therefore, it was naturally hard for me to land on to any job at the moment. Luckily, the member of host family could speak some English and they also had hired one Nepali woman in their company. Host family offered me to work in their Obento company. I accepted immediately. Initially my work was to fill Obento with vegetables, meat etc. and pack it. This was supposed to be most simple task. Since I never had stayed much in […]
